Hi, I'm Alora! I'm a consultant, speaker, curriculum developer, and the founder of NeuroScouts, and I live in Nashville, Tennessee with more notebooks than any one person needs.
Everything I build starts with one question. What is this room asking of the person inside it?
I started as a poet, a kid who wrote her way through middle school and grew up into the Youth Poet Laureate of the Southern United States, a U.S. Arts Envoy, and the author of Walking Gentry Home (Hogarth / Penguin Random House). Poetry taught me that one word, one line break, one rhythm can change what a person believes they are allowed to do.
Then I turned that attention toward classrooms. My Swarthmore thesis, Every Lesson Is a Poem, studied spoken word poetry, neurodivergence, and the future of teaching, and everywhere I looked as a neurodivergent educator I saw the same pattern, people being asked to fix habits that were really very reasonable responses to environments built against them.
So I build the habitat instead. NeuroScouts, Habitat Hacking, and Dopamine Farming are different doors into the same house, a world where the conditions change and people finally get to do what they were always capable of (it's a big house, I'm still decorating).
